Australia Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189)
A permanent skilled migration visa that does not require sponsorship from a relative or any Australian state/territory.
Eligibility Criteria
• Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) via SkillSelect and receive an invitation to apply
• Score a minimum of 65 points on the Skilled Migration Points Test
• Age between 18 to 44 years
• Meet health and character requirements
• Have competent English language skills
• Pass a skills assessment for an occupation on the relevant list
• No sponsorship needed from a relative or government body
Where to Apply From
• You can apply from within or outside Australia
• If applying from within Australia, you must hold a substantive visa or a bridging visa (A, B, or C)
• A bridging visa will be issued to let you remain in Australia while your visa is processed
Family Members You Can Include
• Spouse or de facto partner (including same-sex partners)
• Dependent children
• Other dependent relatives (e.g., financially dependent parents living with you) – must be included at the time of application
Visa Duration & Conditions
• This is a permanent visa
• Live and work in Australia indefinitely
• If granted outside Australia, you and your family must enter before health/police clearances expire
